Fibromyalgia. It sounds like one of those intimidating medical terms that make you think, What does that even mean? But here’s the good news: fibromyalgia isn’t as scary as it sounds, and Ayurveda has some incredible insights into understanding and managing it.   What is Fibromyalgia?   Fibromyalgia is a condition where people experience chronic muscle and bone pain that doesn’t seem to have a clear cause. Doctors often use this term when all tests and investigations come back normal, but the patient continues to experience unexplained pain.   PubMed  describes fibromyalgia as a condition with chronic muscular and bone-related pain.   But, it also says that the etiology is unknown (no definite cause) and pathophysiology is uncertain (the exact disease process isn’t clear).    Now, this is where Ayurveda steps in with a fresh perspective.   Ayurveda’s Take: Vata and Vatavyadhi   In Ayurveda, chronic pain conditions often fall under a group of disorders called Vatavyadhi. To understand this, let’s talk about Vata. Imagine your body is a car. What keeps the car running smoothly? The tires. That’s what Vata is like—it drives all your body’s functions. When Vata is balanced, your body operates like a well-oiled machine. But the whole system can break down when it goes out of balance, just like a flat tire.   How Does Vatavyadhi Manifest?   When Vata becomes imbalanced due to poor diet or lifestyle choices, it starts affecting your blood, tissues and body channels (Srotas). This can lead to: Pain across the entire body Localized pain in specific areas A general sense of discomfort and fatigue Sound familiar? This could be what’s happening in fibromyalgia.   What Causes Vatavyadhi?   Several factors can throw Vata off balance. Here are some common culprits:   Cold, dry, uncooked foods What is cold and dry in our body? It’s Vata. Now think of salads, cold drinks, or raw veggies—they’re also cold and dry aggravating Vata. Staying awake at night Late-night binge-watching, scrolling, munching on junk food, etc. disrupt your body’s natural rhythm. Excessive exertion Excessive workouts at the gym or constantly engaging in activities without rest can worsen Vata. Emotional stress Negative emotions like sadness, overthinking, fear or anger play a big role. Poor eating habits Skipping meals, fasting excessively, or eating a low-calorie diet without nourishing your Agni (digestive fire) is one chief cause of Vatavyadhi. Weak digestion When your digestive system isn’t strong, toxins build up, further disrupting Vata.   Ayurvedic Treatment for Vatavyadhi (Fibromyalgia)   There are 80 types of Vatavyadhi, and an experienced Ayurvedic doctor can diagnose and treat them effectively. It is always advisable to visit a qualified Ayurvedic doctor in this condition. But here’s a sneak peek into the general treatment process:   1. Balancing Vata   To pacify Vata, it is recommended to start with lifestyle changes and simple practices.  Indulge in grounding practices like Yoga and meditation. Gentle yoga or a brisk walk is better than overexerting yourself. Try to improve your focus.   2. Nourishing the body   Nourishment is key. Don’t starve your body! Focus on warm, cooked, and easily digestible foods to keep your digestive fire burning bright.  Soups, stews, and khichdi are your best friends. To ensure your safety, it is best to avoid consuming anything that is raw, cold, or uncooked, such as raw salads.  Add good fats to your diet like ghee and sesame oil.  Skip the ice-cold drinks and opt for warm herbal teas instead.   3. Daily practices   Use organic black sesame oil to massage your body. This helps relax muscles and improve circulation.  Regular practices like Abhyanga (self-massage with oil), oil pulling, Ushapan (drinking warm water on an empty stomach in the morning), light workouts, and meditation are important changes you can make for yourself.      Regular bowel movements   Drink warm water with a pinch of ginger to keep your digestion on track. Daily elimination and regular detoxification can also make a huge difference.   Why is Ayurveda Ideal for Fibromyalgia?   Modern medicine often struggles to pinpoint the cause of fibromyalgia. It is classified as a syndrome; however, there is no definitive test or clear treatment plan. This often leaves patients managing symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbances without addressing the underlying issue. Ayurveda takes a completely different approach. It doesn’t just label fibromyalgia as a mysterious condition. Instead, it views it through the lens of Vatavyadhi – a disorder caused by an imbalance of Vata Dosha. Vata is responsible for movement, communication, and function in the body. When it becomes aggravated due to improper diet, lifestyle or mental stress, it disrupts the natural balance of the body, causing widespread pain and discomfort. But Ayurveda doesn’t stop at identifying the root cause. It provides a roadmap to healing. Fibromyalgia isn’t treated as a “one-size-fits-all” condition. The uniqueness of Ayurveda lies in its personalized approach. Ayurvedic doctors assess an individual’s body constitution (Prakriti) and imbalances (Vikriti) to craft a holistic treatment plan that restores harmony. Shocking but true! In India, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is becoming alarmingly common, with 1 in 3 adults affected. If you’re living a sedentary life, eating heavy foods, or dealing with stress and aggression, your liver may be crying for help. Ayurveda refers to NAFLD as Yakrit Roga or Medo Roga. It is a metabolic disorder linked to an imbalance of Agni (digestive fire) and an unhealthy gut. Left untreated, this fat buildup in the liver can cause the organ to swell, posing serious health risks.  Let’s see how Ayurveda tackles this health condition holistically.   Causes of Fatty Liver According to Ayurveda     Ayurveda identifies specific lifestyle and dietary habits as the root causes of fatty liver: Sedentary lifestyle: A lack of physical activity slows metabolism and encourages fat accumulation. Consumption of heavy-to-digest foods: Rich, oily, or processed foods burden the digestive system. Overeating: Consuming beyond one’s capacity weakens the digestive fire (Agni), leading to fat deposition. Excessive spicy foods: These can cause inflammation and disturb the body’s Dosha balance. Hyperactive, aggressive mind: Emotional imbalances can directly impact liver health.    Ayurvedic Approach to Treating Fatty Liver     Ayurveda treats NAFLD through a combination of diet, lifestyle changes and mild herbal therapies. This holistic approach addresses the root cause of the imbalance rather than just managing symptoms.   Step 1: Reducing inflammation   Inflammation in the body must be addressed first. This is achieved by following an anti-inflammatory diet and, in some cases, incorporating mild herbs. The focus is on soothing the body and balancing the Doshas, especially Kapha and Pitta.   Step 2: Apatarpana – lightening the load   In this step, the emphasis is on reducing the fat or Medo Dhatu in the body by: Consuming easily digestible foods Introducing herbs that enhance digestion and metabolism. Increasing daily physical activity and avoiding sedentary habits.   Step 3: Purifying the blood   The liver’s role in cleansing the blood (Rakta Dhatu) is crucial. This step involves: A specialized diet to purify the blood. Mild herbal remedies tailored to the patient’s needs. Individualized cleansing therapies for the liver and intestines. By the end of three months, most patients show significant improvement, with ultrasounds often coming back clear. For more severe cases, an additional three months of treatment may be required.     Ayurvedic Perspective on Lifestyle and Diet     NAFLD is largely a lifestyle disease. Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of small but impactful changes:   1. Diet recommendations   Fast once a month: This gives the liver time to detoxify and reset. Avoid heavy, oily, and processed foods: While Ghee is beneficial, it should be used sparingly. Switch to light, warm soups for dinner: This eases digestion and reduces the liver’s workload. Reduce use of salt: High salt intake can strain the liver. Avoid “Guru” foods (heavy foods): Heavy foods, such as wheat, potatoes, and nuts like almonds and cashews are difficult to digest and can increase Kapha. Include bitter vegetables: They help detoxify the liver and balance Kapha. Make sure to have them cooked. Reduce sweet foods: Excessive sweets increase Kapha and contribute to fat accumulation.   2. Exercise regularly   Physical activity is essential to breaking down Kapha and reducing fat deposits. A 30-minute daily walk is a good starting point. Yoga practice or a light morning workout on an empty stomach yields wonderful results if accompanied by the right diet.    3. Emotional balance   Emotions like anger, stress, and anxiety can disturb the liver’s functioning. Practices like meditation, yoga or deep breathing and gratitude journaling help maintain emotional and mental balance.   Fatty Liver: Habits to Avoid     Stop doing these things right now to avoid being affected by this condition at any point in life:   Daytime napping: This worsens liver conditions. Staying awake at night: Lack of proper sleep affects the liver’s ability to detoxify and metabolize fats. Anger: Ayurveda connects anger to liver dysfunction. It is very cooling and calming.Also, it consists of a mixture of sandalwood and over 50 other herbal ingredients. Doing foot massage with this oil calms the mind, reduces Pitta aggravation, and induces sound sleep.     How to Do Foot Massage at Home?     Padabhyanga can also be done by yourself — you don’t need a professional for the same. Here’s how to do the foot massage yourself:     Choose your oil Use a good quality Chandanadi oil for Padabhyanga. Instead of buying from a commercial brand, it’s better to buy it from an Ayurvedic doctor, who prepares their own medicines following the traditional recipe.   Prepare your feet Wash your feet thoroughly with warm water and dry them. Then, get into a comfortable position, in a quiet space.   Apply the oil Gently warm the oil and slather it on soles, heels and ankles.   Massage  Start with gentle circular motions on your ankles using your thumb and palm. Massage the Achilles tendon with slow, deep strokes. Move to the top of your foot, kneading from the heel to the toes. Focus on each toe, gently squeezing from base to tip. Don’t forget to massage both feet!   Duration Spend 5-15 minutes per foot. The deeper the massage, the longer the relaxation.     The Best Time to Do Padabhyanga   Padabhyanga is best done at night, right before going to bed. A foot massage at the end of the day prepares your body for sleep, helping you wind down for deep sleep. Licorice – My Favourite Ayurvedic Herb

Licorice or Mulethi is one of my favorite Ayurvedic herbs. It’s versatile, and beneficial, and can be termed a ‘star herb’ for its remarkable impact on health, skin and hair.    Ayurvedic Significance of Licorice   Licorice is called ‘Mulkethi’ or ‘Yashtimadhu’ in Ayurveda.   This herb is mentioned the most number of times throughout the 8 books Acharya Charaka – the father of Ayurvedic medicine, has written. It is, in fact, used as an ingredient in many Ayurvedic medicines for different health issues; specifically, it addresses issues ranging from skin diseases to diabetes!     Why I Love Licorice Tea     Licorice tea has been my go-to drink for years. I’ve swapped my morning coffee for this soothing herbal tea; consequently, it’s been a game-changer for my health.   Here’s why: Improves digestion: Licorice strengthens the digestive fire (Agni) and  gives a great digestive boost if consumed as a morning tea. Hence, it is considered perfect for starting the day with a healthy gut.   Balances Dosha: Licorice (Yashtimadhu) is categorised under sweet-tasting herbs. It helps reduce Kapha and Pitta disorders, also, it reduces fever and, in addition, is nourishing and rejuvenating.   Boosts vitality: As the main ingredient of my Ojas tea, it keeps me energized throughout the day.   Slows aging: Its antioxidant properties help in slowing down the aging process. It accelerates the cell renewal process and also, results in a youthful glow on the skin.   Improves complexion: Mulethi brightens the skin and reduces blemishes. Its oral intake, consequently, purifies the blood and, in addition, expels the toxins from the body.  Additionally, it can be used in topical face packs (in a small amount) to add instant glow to your skin.     How to Make Licorice Tea     So, now you know that it is a wonder herb for balancing health as mentioned in our ancient texts. Let’s make a great cup of licorice tea: Take a 1-inch piece of licorice root (not powder). Add it to 2 glasses of water. Boil and reduce it to 1 glass. Sip this warm tea every morning. You can add ½ inch of cinnamon stick and dry ginger to this tea for added benefits. This simple morning tea has improved my digestion, skin health and overall wellness.      Licorice: A Word of Caution!     However, it isn’t for everyone: High B.P.: Avoid if you suffer from hypertension or have a family history of high B.P.   Take breaks: It’s also important to take breaks with these herbs. Consume licorice for a maximum of 3 months, pause for a while and resume.    Use the root: Choose licorice root over powder for the purest form.   Licorice for Hair Care     Healthy, shiny hair is something we all desire, and it plays a vital role in my haircare routine. Here’s my secret hair mask recipe that works wonders: Ingredients: 3 tablespoons fenugreek seeds (soaked overnight) 1 whole egg (or flaxseeds as a substitute) 1 tablespoon yogurt ½ tablespoon hair oil (optional, for dry hair) 10g licorice powder How to Use: Blend the fenugreek seeds into a paste. Mix in the egg, yogurt, and licorice powder. Apply to your scalp and hair, section by section. Leave it on for 30-45 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. It acts as the secret ingredient in this mask; consequently, it promotes hair growth, adds shine, and cleanses the scalp. Honey ‘s Role in Ayurveda

When you think of honey, you probably imagine it drizzled over your breakfast or stirred into your hot tea. But did you know Ayurveda has some surprising views about it ? While honey is celebrated as a potent remedy, its improper use can turn it into a health hazard. In this blog, let’s explore honey through the Ayurvedic lens, unravel its benefits, and understand how to use it properly.     Honey as per Ayurveda     In Ayurveda, honey is known as Madhu.  Acharya Sushruta describes its properties as follows: Sweet (Rasa)  Slightly bitter (Anurasa) Cold and dry (Ruksha Guna)  Ayurveda reveres it for its ability to balance Kapha Dosha and expel mucus, but also warns that it may aggravate Vata Dosha due to its cold and dry properties.     Benefits According to Ayurveda       Enhances digestion Weak digestion is a sign of aggravated Kapha Dosha. Having honey helps balance  Kapha Dosha and thereby, improves digestion. However, its overconsumption can cause indigestion.    Boosts immunity Rich in antioxidants, fortifies the immune system and aids in detoxification. It supports respiratory health and alleviates symptoms of cough, asthma and other respiratory disorders.   Heals wounds Thanks to its antibacterial properties, honey is effective for wound healing. It prevents infections and speeds up recovery.   Supports reproductive health It nourishes Shukra Dhatu (reproductive tissue), improving fertility and vitality.   Promotes skin health Honey is ‘Varniya’ as mentioned in Ayurvedic texts, which means it is good for improving the skin complexion. Its natural moisturising and antibacterial properties make it a key ingredient in Ayurvedic skincare. It enhances complexion and fights acne.   Good for throat    It soothes sore throat and helps with cough, irritation, phlegm and tonsils. Honey can be mixed with other herbs for a sore throat remedy.    Good for the heart                                                                                            It  improves the blood circulatory system and also purifies the blood. For this reason, people consider it as a nectar for heart health.     When Honey Becomes Harmful ?   Despite its benefits, improper use can lead to serious health concerns:   Heated honey is poison Ayurveda warns against consuming honey in any heated form. Whether mixed with warm water, tea, or milk, heated one creates Ama—a toxic substance that clogs the system and leads to various diseases. According to Acharya Charaka, this is called Samskara Viruddha, where processing (heating) changes its properties, harmful.   Not for hot seasons or excess body heat It  is not suitable for people with excess body heat or during hot weather.   Should not be consumed in excess Ayurveda says you should use it in moderation to reap its maximum benefits. Consuming more than the desired quantity  is equal to consuming poison.      How to Use Honey Safely     Opt for raw, natural honey They heat those available in supermarkets to extreme temperatures and package them.  Always choose raw, unprocessed one sourced directly from beekeepers.   Use at room temperature Use it at the room temperature. Heating it can do more harm than good.   Consume in small quantities Ayurveda advises consuming no more than half to one teaspoon  twice a day. Overuse can turn it into poison, just like excess medicine can harm rather than heal.     Fun Fact: Honey and Modern Misconceptions     Did you know that this is a medicine advised for Diabetes in Ayurveda? Still, it is labelled as unsuitable for diabetics by some brands. That’s because many commercial brands are just sugar syrups masquerading as honey! Real one, when used wisely, can actually help manage diabetes.     Honey in Ayurvedic Detox     People use heated or warm honey only in detoxification treatments like Vamana (therapeutic emesis) and Vasti (medicated enema). In these procedures, warmed honey is expelled from the body through mouth and anus, quickly before it gets into the process of digestion.  But internally, Ayurveda warns against its use in any heated form – directly or mixed with warm milk, warm water, warm lemon water, or tea, etc. Ayurveda explains that warm honey is a slow poison that causes “Ama” or toxicity in the body and its properties turn to that of a poison once inside the body. Ama is a condition where the mucous and toxicity of the body increases leading to many diseases. Premature Ejaculation: An Ayurvedic Perspective

Premature ejaculation (PE) is a common male problem that can lead to frustration, shattered relationships and low self-esteem. It is the situation when ejaculation occurs sooner than desired during intercourse. This affects one in three men at some stage of life. It may seem like an awkward topic and not many like to talk about it, but this is part of men’s health and should be addressed. Every health disorder, whether physical or mental, needs proper attention and treatment.    Cause of Premature Ejaculation   In Ayurveda, the corresponding term for this problem is Sukragatavata. As the name suggests, it is primarily caused by an imbalance in Vata Dosha.  Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, offers a holistic approach to managing this condition by addressing the root cause—Vata Dosha imbalance—and nourishing the reproductive system (Shukra Dhatu). In the Sushruta Samhita, it is explained that premature ejaculation occurs when Vata Dosha becomes imbalanced. This leads to rapid ejaculation and weakening of Shukra Dhatu – the vital tissue responsible for reproductive health: शुक्रक्षयः शोषणं च वातः शीघ्रगमनं च ततः। वातदोषेण जनितं वातनाशं च योजयेत्।। (Sushruta Samhita, Chikitsasthana, Chapter 26) Translation: “Premature ejaculation is caused by Vata aggravation, leading to rapid ejaculation and depletion of reproductive strength. Treatments that pacify Vata are recommended for healing.” Apana, on the other hand, is a subtype of Vata energy, specifically governing the lower abdomen and reproductive organs.  An imbalance in Apana Vata causes premature ejaculation.   Other Causes of Premature Ejaculation   Premature ejaculation can happen at any age. Alopecia Areata is a condition where hair falls out in small patches, leaving bald spots on the scalp.  In Ayurveda, this condition is called ‘Indralupta’ and is said to result from the imbalance in our Doshas. Multitasking: Can Your Mind Really Do It?

Multitasking is no big deal!  At least that’s what we think.   We live in a time where people often try to do many things at once, hanging out with friends but keep checking emails, and exercising while listening to podcasts.    We feel proud of managing so much at once. But have you ever wondered if our minds are truly made for this?    Ayurveda says our minds actually can’t multitask. Instead, the mind just switches quickly between tasks rather than focusing on multiple things at once.     What is Multitasking ?     When we say that we’re going to multitask, what do you usually think of ?    Ayurveda says that the mind is not capable of multitasking! Instead, it switches briskly between one task and another making us feel that we are multitasking.   The price of this constant switching, however, exhausts us both mentally and physically. Ayurveda explains that the mind is in its best form when it concentrates on one thing, which helps in maintaining balance and harmony within us.     The Ayurvedic View on Multitasking     According to Ayurveda, our mind has the quality known as “Ekatwam” or oneness. There is only one mind and it can only do one job at a time.    You may feel that your mind is doing so many things at a time, but it is really not. For example, when you see food in front of you, you can see, smell and taste the food all at once. And you feel your mind is equally involved in all these actions. But, it is not.    Ayurveda quotes an interesting maxim for this:   उत्पल पदतल सूचि वेध न्यायः (Utpala Padatala Suchi Vedha Nyayah)   When a needle is pierced quickly through a hundred lotus petals arranged one over the other, it may seem the needle pierces all hundred petals simultaneously. But, in reality, it makes the piercings one after the other.    The mind is like the needle here. Impressions happen one after the other.    To make it simple, your mind cannot multitask.      Why Multitasking Feels Productive – But Isn’t.     When we multitask, we often get sidetracked by small details. While multitasking seems like a time-saver, it actually reduces efficiency and takes longer to complete tasks.    When juggling too many things, each task only gets a bit of our attention, which can lead to mistakes or half-hearted results. On the surface, it may appear that our productivity is increasing but efficiency is on the decline in reality.   Ayurveda suggests that this scattered focus drains both our mind and body. The mind, like an engine, performs best with clear direction. Constantly shifting gears tires it out, increases mistakes, and weakens focus.     The Impact of Multitasking on Mental Health     Multitasking not only poses a problem for productivity, but it also taxes our mental health. Frequently jumping from one task to the next keeps your brain in heightened alert mode, which can result in stress, anxiety, and even burnout.   When we overload our minds, the Vata Dosha increases and unrest develops which can be noticed in frustration or feeling overwhelmed.   One of the biggest aims in Ayurveda is to cultivate a calm and quiet mind. Trying to manage too many tasks at once disrupts this goal.  It is as if you are trying to calm a lake by throwing more stones into it — each task stirs up new ripples that keep the mind restless.     How Focusing on One Task Benefits the Mind   Imagine holding a single glass of water. It’s easy to carry and manage with both hands. Now, try juggling five glasses. Water spills, and you feel the strain.    This is like focusing on many tasks at once; it’s far more effective to give all your attention to just one task.   When you focus on one thing at a time, your mind has the space to fully absorb and process the information. This leads to better learning and improved results, supporting mental clarity and endurance.   It is more like following your natural clock in Ayurveda which will help to maintain the Doshas, especially Vata.     Ayurvedic Tips to Avoid Multitasking     So how can we reduce multitasking and embrace a more focused, balanced way of living? Here are a few tips from Ayurveda to help keep your mind calm and centred:   Set priorities   Establish priorities at the start of each day. Concentrate on one or two things only. Do not burden yourself in the guise of responsibility — be responsible, but juggle responsibilities responsibly.   Take breaks   Your brain deserves a break between tasks. This will help to perk up your attention and prevent burnout. You could try deep breathing exercises or take a short walk to freshen your mind.   Avoid overstimulation   When you work, turn off all unnecessary notifications and distractions. An overstimulated mind is characterised by an excess of sensory input, so try to limit how much you put in your head every day.   Practice mindfulness   One of the best ways to stop multitasking is by being fully present in whatever you are trying to do. If you are eating, working, or with your family; try to be completely focused in that moment.   Cultivate routine   Routine is often emphasised in Ayurveda as it brings a sense of stability to the mind. Develop a timetable for your daily routine and follow it religiously. Khichdi (Kitchari) Facts : Myths & Truths

Once a staple Ayurvedic food, Khichdi (so-called ‘kitchari’ on the internet) has become the trendy new superfood for detoxification, weight loss, and digestive healing.  But like many health fads, it has some truths and myths. There are many health benefits of Khichdi, but many of our beliefs regarding Khichdi have been exaggerated and misunderstood.    So, what does it offer, and what are some of the myths we can bust along the way?   Let’s explore!   What  is  Khichdi  (‘kitchari’)  ?   Khichdi is a dish made of lentils, rice, spices, vegetables, and ghee. It is a comforting, easily digestible dish that makes it a great dinner option. Everyone calls it the ideal detox food, but there is more to Khichdi than that.     Khichdi  or  ‘Kitchari’  –  What’s  in  a  Name ?   Let’s start with the name because it’s a bit of a mix-up!  Traditionally, the term in ancient Ayurvedic texts is Krsara. In Hindi, it’s known as Khichdi, a comforting, nourishing dish loved throughout India.  But then came Kitchari—a name popularised online, though it’s not quite the traditional name. Where did it come from? We don’t know. After finishing six years of college, I started reading about Ayurveda online for the first time. I was surprised to see the word ‘Kitchari’ everywhere as a name synonymous with Ayurveda.  Going through my textbooks all again, I realised how much online content and Western Ayurvedic books diverged from traditional sources. They all mention ‘Kitchari’ but the information is often inaccurate.   Myth  #1 :  Basmati  Rice  is  the  Best  Choice  for  Khichdi   By far the highest myth regarding Khichdi (‘kitchari’) is that Basmati rice is the perfect rice for Khichdi. People seek basmati rice for its pleasant fragrance and long grains.  But Ayurveda considers it the most inferior quality of rice. People consider basmati to be light and dry, lacking the grounding and nourishing qualities needed for proper digestion and balance.   Ayurveda prefers sona masoori rice for its grounding and nourishing properties. Sona Masoori is medium-grain rice richer in fiber and is closer to the Ayurvedic approach of keeping the Agni or digestive fire balanced. This is necessary for nutrient absorption.    Myth #2 : Any  Oil  Can  Be  Used  to  Make  Khichdi   Coconut oil is heavy, cold and difficult to digest.  Khichdi, a light food, cooks best in ghee.  Ghee is nourishing and considered as good fat.  I don’t know why modern Ayurvedic texts associate coconut oil with Kerela and Ayurveda. Yes, it grows here in abundance and has numerous benefits, but coconut oil is not to be consumed internally if you must keep your digestion perfect.    MYTH  #3:  Khichdi  is the Only Ayurvedic Cleansing Food   Khichdi is excellent as a mono diet for detoxification. However, it is not the only choice that Ayurveda recommends.  There are a variety of food options and you must choose the best based on your Dosha imbalances, Prakriti (body constitution) and health needs.    Myth  #4 :  Khichdi  is  Ideal  for  Weight  Loss   No doubt, Khichdi can help with weight management but it’s not a miracle cure for weight loss. It is a low-calorie dish and helps digestion, which can indirectly contribute to losing weight when combined with a balanced lifestyle.  However, focusing solely on Kitchari to lose weight may overlook other crucial aspects like exercise, balanced hydration, and an overall healthy lifestyle. It’s about long-term changes, not just a temporary diet fix.   Myth  #5 :  Khichdi  Has   to  be  Boring  and  Bland   It is a great meal choice for those recovering from an illness or having some sort of digestive discomfort, however, it does not need to be boring and tasteless.  Ayurvedic Khichdi contains many spices, including cumin, ginger, asafoetida and turmeric, which make it a delectable dish. Each spice has a function, ranging from helping in digestion to absorption of nutrients.   Myth #6 :  You Can Eat ‘Kitchari’ Every Day Without Consequence   It is safe for almost everyone and has a positive influence on health, but is typically recommended for specific periods or circumstances—such as during detox cleanses, illness, or digestive upset.  If your body requires some variation or different nutrients, eating it every day can cause imbalances. You should listen to your body when it comes to food, and mix up what you eat to ensure that you cover the whole range of nutrients over time.   MYTH  #7 :   Khichdi  is  Ideal  for  All  Dosha  Types   Khichdi is a Dosha-balanced meal for the most part, but slight adaptations may be necessary to suit the individual body type. For example: Vata types can add more ghee for grounding and warmth. Pitta people should use cooling herbs such as coriander in Khichdi and be careful with black pepper. Kapha people must add some warming spices such as ginger to help stoke the fire. The authentic Ayurvedic Khichdi is light, easily digestible, and suitable for all Doshas, especially Vata. Served fresh and warm, it includes healthy fats to balance the cold and dry nature of Vata types.   Myth  #8 :  ‘Kitchari’   is  Just  a   Food,  Not  a  Complete  Health  Practice   While this is true, Ayurveda has more to say about it. Mindful eating, daily routine (Dinacharya), balanced lifestyle and adequate sleep are just as important as food.  While Khichdi supports a gentle reset, its nourishing qualities are amplified when paired with Ayurveda’s other holistic practices.   Myth  #9 :   Khichdi  Can  Cure  Every  Disease   While Kitchari is therapeutic for digestion, it is not a panacea.
