I’m often asked about the secret tips for my long hair.     Firstly, I’d like to thank my genetics, as it decides how long your hair will grow, no matter how much you try. However, that’s not the whole story!    In this blog, I’ll share six tips that I follow to achieve my long hair goals.    Tips for long hair    Here they are.   Nourishing from the inside out   The first thing I do is focus on my diet. I opt for easily digestible foods to maintain good digestion and elimination.    What we eat can significantly impact hair health. Choosing easily digestible foods is a great start. A well-functioning digestive system ensures your body can absorb essential nutrients for healthy hair growth.    Handling with care   I always try to be gentle while handling my hair, especially while drying it after washing and detangling.    Treating your hair gently is crucial, especially when it’s wet, as it is more delicate and prone to damage. Avoid aggressively rubbing your hair to dry it. Instead, use a soft towel and gently blot out the excess water.    Trimming the ends   I make sure to trim the ends of my hair once a month without fail. This helps remove split ends and promotes healthier, faster hair growth.    Keeping the scalp clean   I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Daily washing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leading to dryness and breakage.    It is essential to maintain a clean scalp; consequently, this allows your hair follicles to breathe, thereby promoting better growth.    Using hair oil and hair scrub   Another thing I do to maintain my hair health is using hair oil and hair scrub before every wash.     Before washing my hair, I always apply Dr. Rekha Ayurvedic Hair Oil, which contains all-natural ingredients that nourish the scalp and boost hair growth. Hair Oil Overnight: Tips for a Healthier Hair Care Routine

Often, people mistake traditional practices for Ayurvedic wisdom, given the age-old heritage of Ayurveda. An instance of this is the customary practice of leaving oil on your hair overnight.  In India, it is a common tradition to leave hair oil on overnight – a practice that Ayurveda discourages.   In this blog, let us delve into the reasons behind this recommendation.    Purpose of using hair oil     It  serves various purposes, such as promoting hair growth, nourishing the scalp, and reducing hair fall. To deliver these benefits, it should contain specific herbs that have specific actions. These herbs need to have a cooling effect to work effectively because hot ingredients do not aid in hair growth.  Even in my product, Doctor Rekha Ayurvedic Hair Oil, I exclusively use cooling ingredients for this very reason.  Leaving oil on your hair overnight can disrupt the balance of the Kapha Dosha; therefore, it is important to consider the timing and method of application.   This leads to issues like excessive mucous, cough, cold and headaches, among others. Thus, it is advisable to apply only when you intend to shower within an hour of application.    How long should you leave oil on your hair?   The ideal time period to leave oil on your hair mainly depends on your body type (Prakriti). Therefore, understanding your Prakriti is crucial to determining the optimal duration. If you have a dry scalp, which is predominantly Vata in nature, you can leave the oil on for 45 minutes to an hour. For those with a Pitta Prakriti, the ideal duration is 30 to 45 minutes. However, if you have an oily scalp with a Kapha predominance, and you are prone to mucous-related problems like coughs, colds and headaches, it is best not to leave the oil on for more than 15 to 20 minutes.  For babies, as they are typically in the Kapha phase of their life, the recommended time is even less—10 minutes to a maximum of 15 minutes.  The only exception to this rule is if you have been habitually using hair oil overnight throughout your life (known as Okasatmya, favorable due to habit) and have not experienced any imbalances. In that case, you may continue with your practice.  It is crucial to avoid disturbing your Doshas when striving to enhance hair health. Bad hair health ? These 3 actions of yours Could be the Reason!

I’ve seen people doing everything on earth to maintain their hair health, but still ending up with dull and damaged hair.  What could be the reason?    There are three things that you should never do to your hair according to Ayurveda. And if you’re doing any of these, it’s time to stop!      Pulling your hair back      Pulling your hair back constantly causes a condition called “Traction Alopecia,” which results in a receding hairline.    Traction alopecia is a form of hair loss that occurs due to prolonged tension or pulling on the hair. It is most commonly caused by tight hairstyles, such as braids, weaves, or extensions, that pull on the hair for an extended period of time.    Traction alopecia usually affects the hairline and the areas around the ears, where the hair is most tightly pulled. The hair loss can range from mild to severe and can be permanent if the tension on the hair is not relieved. Some common symptoms of traction alopecia include a receding hairline, small bumps or blisters on the scalp, itching or tenderness of the scalp, and broken or damaged hairs at the hairline.    Treatment for traction alopecia involves removing the source of tension on the hair, such as changing hairstyles or removing hair extensions. It is also important to avoid hairstyles that pull on the hair and to use gentle hair care practices, such as using a wide-tooth comb and avoiding excessive heat styling. Let your hair loose and do not try these types of hairstyles that pull your hair constantly.    Frequent hot head showers    Hot water can damage your hair in several ways. It can strip the natural oils from the scalp and hair, leaving it dry and brittle. Also, it can also lead to split ends, breakage and dull-looking hair.    Hot water can also weaken the hair shaft, making it more prone to damage from brushing or styling. This can lead to hair loss over time. Hot water can also cause the cuticle layer of the hair to lift, which can make the hair look frizzy and rough.  Using hot water on colour-treated hair can also cause the colour to fade  quickly.
