Premature ejaculation – the condition in which semen leaves the body sooner than wanted during sex is a common sexual health concern faced by men. It happens to 1 in 3 men at some point.

Causes of premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation can occur at any age. Ageing may not be the cause of premature ejaculation, but the ageing process can affect it. Anxiety, depression, stress or other emotional/psychological factors can be a reason. Men suffering from erectile dysfunction can also have premature ejaculation. Hormonal or chemical imbalance and oversensitive penis are other causes.

Ayurvedic Management

According to Ayurveda, premature ejaculation is called Sukragatavata.

Our body is constituted of three biophysical energies, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Vata has five subtypes out of which Apana Vata governs the lower part of one’s body, which includes all parts of lower abdomen and pelvic cavity and also controls sexual arousal and ejaculation. An imbalance in Apana Vata causes premature ejaculation, a condition that manifests in both mental and physical complications.

It is possible to manage premature ejaculation through Ayurveda. Here are some lifestyle tips you can try to get rid of the condition.

  • Include 2 tsp of Amla powder in your diet every day mixed with a little ghee during lunch
  • Abhyanga – daily oil massages are important, especially around the lower abdomen, using a mix of cinnamon oil and organic black sesame oil
  • Nutmeg milk: Sun dry and powder the rind of nutmeg and add 5g to milk and drink before bed
  • Try Yoga poses like Pavanamuktasana, Halasana, Sarvangasan, Kakasana, Kati-chakrasana and backward bending poses
  • Ayurvedic herbs like Mucuna pruriens, Ricinus communis, Centella Asiatica, etc. in various combinations can help you completely get rid of premature ejaculation. But take them strictly under the supervision of a doctor to avoid adverse reactions
  • Last, but not the least, assurance and comfort from the partner, psychological counselling/therapy, breathing exercises and meditation‚Äô
