food as medicine

In a world where health is often reduced to prescriptions and quick fixes, my approach to Ayurveda stands apart. I do not begin treatment with medicines. I begin with food.

For me, Ayurveda is not just a system of healing, it is a way of living, rooted deeply in tradition, observation, and respect for the body’s natural intelligence. I come from a lineage where healing was never about suppressing symptoms, but about restoring balance. And that balance begins with Ahara (food) and Vihara (lifestyle).

Food Is the First Medicine

I strongly believe that what you eat every day has a far greater impact on your health than any medicine you consume occasionally. This is why every prescription I give includes a detailed, personalized food plan based on your Dosha, digestive capacity (Agni), and current imbalances.

Unlike many modern approaches, where diet is often a secondary suggestion, in my practice, it is the foundation.

Why? Because most diseases do not arise overnight. They are the result of years of improper eating habits, incompatible food combinations, irregular routines, and neglect of the body’s natural rhythms.

When the root cause lies in food and lifestyle, how can healing come from pills alone?

My Approach to Medicines

You will notice something different about my prescriptions. They contain very minimal medicines, and when they do, they are mild, simple, and often prepared fresh in my clinic.

I consciously avoid strong Ayurvedic formulations, especially those containing heavy metals. While classical Ayurveda does include such preparations, and they are considered safe when properly purified, I choose not to rely on them in my practice.

In fact, you will not even find commonly used herbs like Ashwagandha or Shatavari in my prescriptions.

This may surprise many, but my reasoning is simple.

Whether it is an herbal supplement like Ashwagandha or a conventional drug like Paracetamol, anything consumed regularly creates a processing load on the body, especially the liver and kidneys. My goal is not to add to that burden, but to reduce it.

Healing should feel light, not heavy.

Supporting the Body, Not Overpowering It

The human body has an incredible ability to heal itself when given the right environment. My role as a practitioner is not to override that intelligence, but to support it.

Instead of introducing strong interventions, I focus on:

  • Correcting digestion (Agni)

  • Aligning daily routines with natural rhythms

  • Removing incompatible food habits

  • Restoring balance among the Doshas

  • Encouraging mindful eating and living

When these factors are addressed consistently, the body begins to repair itself slowly, but sustainably.

No Quick Fixes And That Is Intentional

If you are looking for instant relief, my approach may not be suitable for you.

I do not believe in quick fixes or temporary suppression of symptoms. While it is possible to reduce symptoms rapidly using medicines, this often does not address the underlying cause.

For example, acidity can be suppressed, pain can be reduced, and skin issues can be masked but unless the root imbalance is corrected, these conditions tend to return, often stronger than before.

True healing takes time.

It requires patience, consistency, and a willingness to change long-standing habits. But the results are deeper and longer-lasting.

When to Seek Other Systems of Medicine

It is important to understand the scope of my practice.

If you are dealing with acute conditions such as:

  • Accidents

  • Severe injuries

  • Infections

  • Medical emergencies

You should seek immediate care from an Allopathic doctor.

Emergency medicine and acute interventions are areas where modern medicine excels, and I fully respect that. My approach is designed for chronic conditions, lifestyle disorders, and long-term health restoration not urgent care.

Today, Ayurveda is often reduced to massages, detox teas, and trendy diets like Kichari cleanses.

While these are a part of Ayurveda, they represent only a small fraction of its depth.

Ayurveda is a complete medical system with a profound understanding of the human body, mind, and environment. It offers tools not just to manage disease, but to prevent it and maintain optimal health.

In my practice, I go beyond superficial treatments and focus on individualized care rooted in classical principles.

Treating the Root Cause

One of the most important truths I have learned through years of practice is this:

In nearly 98% of cases, the root cause of disease lies in Ahara (food) and Vihara (lifestyle).

Irregular eating times, overeating, incompatible food combinations, lack of sleep, stress, and sedentary habits gradually disturb the body’s balance.

When this imbalance persists, it manifests as disease.

So instead of asking, “Which medicine should I take?” I ask:

  • What are you eating daily?

  • When are you eating?

  • How are you living?

  • Are you aligned with your natural rhythms?

When these questions are addressed honestly and corrected consistently, the need for medicines reduces significantly.

A Different Kind of Healing Journey

If you choose to consult with me, you are choosing a different path.

It is not a path of instant results, but of gradual transformation.

It requires:

  • Commitment to dietary changes

  • Willingness to follow routines

  • Patience with the healing process

  • Trust in the body’s natural intelligence

But in return, it offers something far more valuable than temporary relief, lasting health.

My Ethos

My practice is built on simplicity, tradition, and respect for the body.

I do not aim to complicate healing with multiple medicines or aggressive interventions. Instead, I guide you back to basics: food, routine, and awareness.

Because when the foundation is strong, the body does not need constant support from external substances.

It learns to stand on its own.

And that, to me, is true healing.
