Inflammation    in   Ayurveda

Ayurveda considers fire an important element. Good health requires it.  Fire in metabolism helps us digest the food we eat, gain energy from it and burn waste. However, at times, the digestive fire can be excessive in the wrong places and this can cause inflammation and associated health disorders.

Ayurveda sees inflammation as a symptom of disturbance or imbalance of the Pitta Dosha (the fire principle) – one of the three Doshas or biophysical energies of the body. You can control and even cure this condition by making a few adjustments to your diet and daily routine, in addition to taking supplements.

Talking about diet, here are three inflammatory foods that you should avoid when it comes to daily consumption.

Curd

Yes, you heard that right. Curd is a heavy, heating food. Ayurvedically, it can cause the accumulation of toxins and blockage of channels. Therefore, experts do not advise consuming curd on a daily basis.

Black Gram

Black gram is also a heavy heating food, which can increase Kapha and Pitta – two of the three biophysical energies in our body. Therefore, experts do not recommend it for everyday consumption.

Eggplant

Many people consider eggplant unwholesome and inflammatory. It can block channels, so health experts do not recommend it for everyday use.

A healthy individual who exercises daily, has good Agni, and regularly consumes these foods can eat them in moderation. However, if you have health conditions, Dosha imbalance, improper lifestyle or impaired digestion, it is better to avoid these foods.
